Style recipe for Suno v5
Nu Metal
Downtuned nu metal from the 1990s: baritone eight-string drone, chorus-drenched clean arpeggio, ambient turntable texture, dreamy and menacing in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Nu metal grew out of the alternative metal scene of the early 1990s, taking the groove of Pantera, the genre-mixing of Faith No More and Helmet, and a hint first dropped by Anthrax, whose 1987 EP I'm the Man had already bolted rap onto thrash. Korn and its self-titled debut are usually credited with starting it in the mid-1990s. The sound is all rhythm: down-tuned seven-string guitars, syncopated riffs, funk-minded bass, hip-hop drum patterns, sometimes a DJ scratching and sampling, and vocals that move between singing, rapping and screaming. Solos were pushed out almost entirely, and Kory Grow of Revolver wrote that nu metal drove a stake through the heart of the guitar solo. Rap guests were routine: Ice Cube on Korn's Children of the Korn, Snoop Dogg and Method Man with Limp Bizkit, Jay-Z on the 2004 EP Collision Course with Linkin Park. The peak came with Linkin Park's diamond-selling debut Hybrid Theory. By the mid-2000s oversaturation and weak releases had sunk the style, and metalcore and emo took its audience. The 2010s brought it back through Bring Me the Horizon, and later Grimes and Rina Sawayama folded it into electronic pop.
