History
Ice Cube (born O'Shea Jackson, June 15, 1969, in South Central Los Angeles) is an American rapper, songwriter, actor, and film producer, one of the founding figures of West Coast gangsta rap. He began writing rhymes in the trio C.I.A. in 1986, then in 1987 joined Eazy-E and Dr. Dre to form N.W.A in Compton, becoming the group's lead lyricist and writing much of their landmark 1989 album Straight Outta Compton. A financial dispute over the group's management led him to leave N.W.A in early 1990 and launch a solo career: his first three albums, AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted (1990), Death Certificate (1991), and The Predator (1992), were both critically praised and commercially successful, defining a harder-edged, politically charged strain of rap. He also led the group Da Lench Mob. Beyond music, Ice Cube built a substantial acting and filmmaking career, starting with Boyz n the Hood (1991) and the Friday franchise, which he co-wrote and starred in. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside N.W.A in 2016.
