History
Origami is a Russian rock band from Saint Petersburg, formed in 2001 by vocalist Maxim Kamenshchikov and drummer Alexey Pirogov; the band dates its official founding to its first show on April 6, 2002. Their sound blends alternative metal, emocore, metalcore and post-hardcore, with influences the members themselves have named as Limp Bizkit, Korn, The Used, Thursday and Glassjaw. After a self-released 2004 demo, Origami issued its debut album "Когда ложь стала правдой" ("When Lies Became Truth") in 2005 on the indie label MDU, followed in 2006 by "...И ангелы ошибаются..." ("...And Angels Are Mistaken..."), which became a major hit in Russia's alternative scene and helped make the band one of the emblematic acts of the mid-2000s Russian emocore wave. Music videos aired on the A-One TV channel. Kamenshchikov left in 2007 and was replaced by Artem Kasaev, who fronted the band until 2023; the lineup has changed repeatedly since, with only founding guitarist Andrey Sharapov and bassist Nikolay Savenkov present continuously since 2001. The group remains active, releasing new singles in 2025 and 2026.
