Style recipe for Suno v5
Groove Metal
Heavy groove metal from the 1990s: downtuned chug riffs, syncopated snare accents, squealing pinch harmonics, aggressive and menacing in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Groove metal, also known as neo-thrash or post-thrash, took thrash metal and slowed it down, trading speed for a bouncing, syncopated pull: mid-tempo downtuned riffs, palm muting, heavily distorted bass and double kick drums used to roll rather than blast. It took shape around 1990 among mostly American bands mixing thrash, hardcore and heavier metal. New Orleans' Exhorder, New York's Prong, who slowed their crossover thrash on Beg to Differ (1990), and Bad Brains are counted among the pioneers. Pantera's Cowboys from Hell (1990) is the album usually said to have codified the style, Vulgar Display of Power (1992) became its benchmark, and Far Beyond Driven reached number one on the Billboard 200 in 1994. Sepultura slowed down for Chaos A.D. (1993), Machine Head debuted with Burn My Eyes (1994), and thrash veterans followed, from Testament's Low to Kreator's Cause for Conflict. Korn singer Jonathan Davis said there would be no Korn without Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell, and the genre fed nu metal, metalcore and the new wave of American heavy metal. A second wave in the 2000s brought Lamb of God, Chimaira, DevilDriver and Damageplan, which ended in 2004 when Dimebag was shot dead at one of its shows.
