History
Lamb of God is an American heavy metal band from Richmond, Virginia. Bassist John Campbell, drummer Chris Adler and guitarist Mark Morton met at Virginia Commonwealth University and started the group in 1994 under the name Burn the Priest, drawing on Richmond's hardcore punk underground. Vocalist Randy Blythe joined in 1995, and guitarist Willie Adler completed the classic lineup. After a self-titled 1998 debut, the band renamed itself Lamb of God and became a leading act of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal, fusing thrash speed (Slayer) with Pantera-style groove. Albums such as "Ashes of the Wake," "Sacrament" and "Wrath" earned two RIAA Gold certifications and several Grammy nominations, including one for the 2016 song "512." The band's most unusual chapter came in 2012, when Blythe was arrested in Prague and tried for manslaughter over a fan's death at a 2010 show; a Czech court acquitted him in 2013. Lamb of God continues recording and touring, with "Into Oblivion" released in 2026.
