System of a Down
2000s odd-meter Armenian alt-metal from the 2000s: staccato muted tremolo, Armenian modal runs, folk-scale lead line, theatrical and aggressive in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.

History
System of a Down write metal that refuses to settle into one tempo or one mood for long. A song will lurch from a chugging riff into a waltz, then into something that sounds like an Armenian folk melody played on a distorted guitar, and the vocals swing just as hard, from a croon to a yelp to a flat deadpan inside a single verse. The band formed in Los Angeles among musicians of Armenian descent, and that heritage is audible in the scales and the vocal ornamentation as much as it is present in lyrics that keep returning to genocide recognition and political violence. Toxicity, produced by Rick Rubin, is where the approach clicked: Chop Suey! moves through three distinct songs in three minutes and still works as a singalong, and B.Y.O.B. turned an anti-war argument into a stadium chorus. They are usually filed under nu-metal because of when they arrived, though almost nothing about the writing fits the label.
