History
Papa Roach is an American rock band formed in January 1993 in Vacaville, California, when singer Jacoby Shaddix and drummer Dave Buckner met on their high school football field. The band's classic lineup coalesced around Shaddix, guitarist Jerry Horton, bassist Tobin Esperance, and Buckner, who stayed with the group until 2007. Papa Roach broke into the mainstream with their major-label debut Infest (2000), a fusion of nu-metal, rap-rock, and alternative metal that went multi-platinum. Its lead single "Last Resort," a raw song about suicidal crisis, topped Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart for seven weeks and became one of the genre's defining anthems. Decades later the song found a second life: a 2021 "Reloaded" version featuring TikTok artist Jeris Johnson topped the Hot Hard Rock Songs chart, introducing the band to a new generation. Papa Roach went on to release albums including Getting Away with Murder (2004) and The Paramour Sessions (2006), and have scored more than a dozen number-one hits on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, making them one of the most enduring acts to emerge from the early-2000s nu-metal wave.
