Style recipe for Suno v5
Post-Punk
Post punk from the 2000s: angular staccato riff, offbeat cowbell, four-on-floor kick, swaggering and playful in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Post-punk grew out of punk in the late 1970s, mostly in Britain, among musicians who kept punk's energy and its habit of self-run labels but wanted out of three chords and Chuck Berry riffs. They took cues from krautrock such as Can, the electronics of Kraftwerk, the Berlin-period records of David Bowie, dub, funk and disco, and from modernist books, art films and politics. The result could be harsh and angular, with controlled noise and heavily accented drums, or eccentric and ethereal, and Simon Reynolds called it less a genre than a space of possibility. Jon Savage sketched the scene in Sounds in November 1977 under the name New Musick, though the phrase post-punk had surfaced a year earlier in a New York poetry magazine. In 1978 Siouxsie and the Banshees and Public Image Ltd. both reached the UK top ten with debut singles, and Joy Division, The Cure and Gang of Four followed. By the mid-1980s the movement had scattered, and its ideas lived on in gothic rock, dream pop and shoegaze. New York bands revived it in the 2000s, and later acts filed under the style include Interpol, IDLES and Fontaines D.C..
