History

Буерак (Buerak) is a Russian indie rock band formed in 2014 in Novosibirsk, Siberia, by vocalist/bassist Artyom Cherepanov and guitarist Alexandr Makeyev. Blending indie rock, post-punk, and alternative rock, the group built a following through early EPs "Proletariat" and "Korni" (both 2015), and the Russian magazine Afisha named them among the leading acts of the "New Russian Wave" movement. Critics and the band members themselves have pointed to 1980s Soviet rock as a formative influence on their sound. Buerak has stayed unusually prolific, releasing a new full-length almost every year since 2016 - among them "Tantsy Po Raschyotu" (2016), "Repost Modern" (2018), "Show-biznes" (2019), and "Ozhidaniye/Realnost" (2023) - alongside dozens of singles. In mid-2017 the band publicly and acrimoniously severed ties with their tour manager, Stepan Kazaryan, over a financial dispute, a rare instance of Russian DIY rock's business side spilling into the press. The group remains based in Novosibirsk.
