History
Noize MC is the stage name of Ivan Alekseyev, a Russian rapper, singer and guitarist born March 9, 1985, in Yartsevo, Smolensk Oblast. He started writing poetry as a child and trained in classical guitar before moving to Moscow in 2002 to study at the Russian State University for the Humanities, where he formed his band, originally called Protivo Gunz. Blending alternative hip hop, rap rock and conscious hip hop, he built his early reputation in freestyle battles, notably beating rapper Young MC at the 2005 "Snickers Guru Clan" festival, then signed with Respect Productions and Universal Music Russia in 2007. His albums include Hard Reboot (2014), the hip-hopera Orpheus & Eurydice (2018) and Exit to City (2021). One genuinely notable episode: in February 2010, after a Lukoil executive's car killed two women in a Moscow crash, Noize MC wrote and released the protest track "Mercedes S666" within 24 hours, and it went viral across Russian social media. He later collaborated with P.O.D. singer Sonny Sandoval and, due to his anti-war public stance, has faced cancelled tours in Russia and now lives abroad.
