Late-2010s abrasive British post-punk from the 2010s: single-note guitar stab, fuzz-blasted bass rumble, tribal tom barrage, aggressive and defiant in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.

History

IDLES came out of Bristol with a sound built less on riffs than on repetition and pressure. Two guitars grind at a single figure, the bass carries whatever melody there is, and the vocal is closer to a shout or a chant than to singing, with lines repeated until they stop being slogans and turn into something heavier. What separated the band from the rest of the post-punk revival was the subject matter: grief, the health service, immigration, men being allowed to admit weakness, all delivered at a volume usually reserved for aggression. Danny Nedelko is a plain song of solidarity with a friend who is an immigrant, set to a punk stomp. Mother and Colossus show the other side, tension held and then released rather than resolved by a chorus. Live, the band is known for getting into the audience rather than keeping a distance from it. Two Mercury shortlists and a UK number one album arrived without much softening of any of this.
