History
Дурной Вкус play post-punk and dark pop that their leader describes as pop melodies with a garage sound and simple lyrics, thoughts spoken aloud over plain chords. The project began in Saint Petersburg in 2018 as a solo outlet for Andrei Degtyarev, who at the time worked as a lighting technician in a theatre. Keyboardist Royana Mustafaeva joined in 2020, the year the band played its first headline shows, first in Saint Petersburg and then in Moscow. Degtyarev writes and records the songs in a home studio, and names Kino and Телевизор at home and Joy Division and Depeche Mode abroad as his main influences. The best-known track, Пластинки, was recorded in 2018 and had passed twenty million streams by 2023. The debut album Светомузыка was made during the 2020 quarantine and also appeared in a run of a hundred copies on Sierpien Records. The songs swing between jokes such as Мяу and more serious pieces such as Думаешь ты. In 2023 the band played the Stereoleto festival. Listeners know them by modest home-studio production, catchy keyboard lines and a detached, reflective tone.
