Style recipe for Suno v5
Cloud Rap
Cloud rap from the 2010s: hazy synth wash, deep sub kick, reverb soaked pad, dreamy and spacious in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Cloud rap came out of Southern hip-hop in the late 2000s and sounds like its name: trap drums sunk in reverb, ethereal synths and chopped samples lifted from ambient, new age, J-pop, video game music and anime soundtracks. Lil B, producer Clams Casino, Main Attrakionz and SpaceGhostPurrp were among its first architects. In 2010 blogger Walker Chambliss used it for Squadda B of Main Attrakionz, believing he was quoting a 2009 interview in which Lil B pointed at a computer image of a castle in the clouds and said that was the music he wanted to make; the interview never contained the phrase. Danny Brown summed up the genre as Imogen Heap samples, and producers sampled Sade too. In 2011 A$AP Rocky took the style to the mainstream with Peso and the mixtape Live. Love. ASAP, partly produced by Clams Casino. In 2013 the video for Yung Lean's Ginseng Strip 2002 went viral, and the circle around him, including Bladee and Drain Gang, shaped where the genre went next. Much of it came out without a label, straight to SoundCloud and YouTube. By the late 2010s cloud rap had splintered into emo rap, digicore and rage.
