History
Forbidden is an American thrash metal band from the San Francisco Bay Area, formed in early 1985 under the name Forbidden Evil by guitarists Craig Locicero and Robb Flynn, vocalist Russ Anderson, drummer Jim Pittman, and bassist John Tegio. The band shortened its name to Forbidden in 1987. Its 1988 debut, "Forbidden Evil," and the 1990 follow-up, "Twisted into Form," are considered classics of the technical "tech-thrash" style and helped establish the group alongside Bay Area peers like Testament, Exodus, and Death Angel. A genuinely notable footnote: Robb Flynn left before the debut was recorded to join Vio-lence and later founded Machine Head, though he co-wrote several tracks on "Forbidden Evil." Drummer Paul Bostaph, who replaced Pittman, went on to join Slayer, Exodus, and Testament. Forbidden broke up and reformed twice, most recently reactivating in 2023 after a hiatus that began in 2012.
