History
Death Angel formed in 1982 in Daly City, near San Francisco, built almost entirely around family: guitarist Rob Cavestany, guitarist Gus Pepa, bassist Dennis Pepa, and drummer Andy Galeon, who were joined by three cousins and, in 1984, permanent singer Mark Osegueda. Playing raw, technical thrash metal, the band became part of the Bay Area scene of the 1980s, opening for Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Exodus, and is often counted among thrash's leading second-wave acts. After two demos, they released The Ultra-Violence (1987) and Frolic Through the Park (1988), then signed to Geffen for Act III (1990) - notably, drummer Galeon joined the band at just 14. Touring behind that album, a 1990 bus crash in Arizona left Galeon badly injured; the long recovery, followed by Osegueda's departure, broke the band up in 1991. Death Angel reunited in 2001 and has released several more albums since, including Humanicide (2019), whose title track earned a Grammy nomination.
