History
Evile are an English thrash metal band from Huddersfield, formed in 2004 by school friends Matt Drake and Ben Carter, who had earlier played together in a Metallica cover band. The lineup was rounded out by Matt's brother Ol Drake on lead guitar and bassist Mike Alexander. Drawing on Metallica, Sepultura, Exodus and Slayer, the band became part of the mid-2000s thrash revival and signed to Earache Records in 2006 after headlining Bloodstock Open Air's second stage while still unsigned. Their debut, Enter the Grave (2007), was recorded in Copenhagen with Flemming Rasmussen, the producer behind several classic Metallica records. Evile supported Megadeth and Exodus on European tours, and their song "Thrasher" appeared in the Rock Band video game. Tragedy struck in October 2009 when Mike Alexander died of a pulmonary embolism on tour in Sweden. The band carried on, releasing six albums in total, with drummer Ben Carter the only constant member through numerous lineup changes.
