History
Toxic Holocaust is an American thrash metal band formed in Portland, Oregon in 1999 by Joel Grind, who has remained its sole constant member and primary songwriter. For years the project was essentially a one-man band: Grind wrote and recorded the music alone, releasing two demos (Radiation Sickness, 1999; Critical Mass, 2002) before his debut album, Evil Never Dies (2003). After touring with a hired backing lineup, he released Hell on Earth (2005) - notable for cover art by Ed Repka, the illustrator behind classic Megadeth and Death album covers. The record's success brought a deal with Relapse Records, which issued the third album, An Overdose of Death... (2008), and reissued the first two. Further releases followed, including the EP Gravelord (2009), Conjure and Command (2011), and Chemistry of Consciousness (2013). In 2019 Grind signed with Entertainment One and released Primal Future: 2019. The band's sound blends thrash metal with punk rock aggression, drawing comparisons to Venom, Discharge, Motorhead, D.R.I. and Slayer, alongside first-wave black metal influences.
