History
Skeletonwitch is an American thrash metal band formed in 2003 in Athens, Ohio, when guitarist Scott Hedrick heard demo recordings from Nate Garnette's earlier band, Serkesoron, while both were students at Ohio University. They recruited Nate's older brother Chance Garnette as vocalist and self-released their debut album, At One with the Shadows, in 2004, followed by the EP Worship the Witch in 2005. After signing with Prosthetic Records, the band issued Beyond the Permafrost (2007) and opened for Danzig's Blackest of the Black tour in 2008. Their sound mixes raw Bay Area thrash and New Wave of British Heavy Metal riffing with death and black metal elements. Breathing the Fire (2009) debuted at No. 151 on the Billboard 200, and the track "Soul Thrashing Black Sorcery" appeared on the soundtrack of the video game Brütal Legend. The band played every date of Ozzfest 2010. Serpents Unleashed (2013), produced by Kurt Ballou, reached No. 62 on the Billboard 200 but was Chance Garnette's final album; he was fired in late 2014/early 2015 following a domestic-assault arrest. Wolvhammer's Adam Clemans became the new vocalist in 2015, and the current lineup also includes Nate Garnette, Scott Hedrick and bassist Evan Linger.
