History
Municipal Waste is an American crossover thrash band formed in Richmond, Virginia, in 2000, playing its first show at a local New Year's Eve keg party. Drawing on D.R.I., Suicidal Tendencies, Corrosion of Conformity and Nuclear Assault, the band fuses thrash metal riffing with hardcore punk speed and a comedic, beer-soaked attitude that critics dubbed "party thrash." Vocalist Tony Foresta and rhythm guitarist Ryan Waste have anchored the lineup since the start, joined over the years by bassist Philip "Land Phil" Hall, drummer Dave Witte and lead guitarist Nick "Nikropolis" Poulos. Since the 2003 debut "Waste 'Em All" and 2005's "Hazardous Mutation," the group has released seven studio albums, three EPs and four splits, with 2009's "Massive Aggressive" debuting at number 10 on the US Heatseekers chart. They have been called an integral force in the second wave of the American crossover/thrash scene, and in early 2025 supported former Slayer guitarist Kerry King on his North American tour.
