History
Утро make Russian-language post-punk that has gradually drifted toward something quieter and more rural: taut guitar lines, plain half-chanted vocals and lyrics about fields, trains, villages and the sky. The band comes from Rostov-on-Don, and its songs are written by vocalist Vlad Parshin. Before settling on this sound the group spent years in the local underground of the 2000s playing garage rock in English, then switched to Russian and to the colder, more rhythmic language of post-punk. The five-track EP «Солнце», released in March 2015, was noted at the time for sounding lighter and more transparent than the band's earlier, darker recordings. Comparisons with Soviet post-punk followed them, though the band preferred not to explain its choices. The 2021 album «Другое за другим», recorded in Rostov-on-Don and issued by I'm Home Records, leans further into a folk-tinged, melancholic mood, with lyrics that nod to the poets Andrei Bely and Nikolai Tryapkin. The band is recognisable by that mix of wiry post-punk pulse and a pastoral, almost literary Russian lyric.
