History
Shinedown is an American rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 2001 by singer Brent Smith after his previous band, Dreve, was dropped by its label. Smith recruited bassist Brad Stewart, guitarist Jasin Todd, and drummer Barry Kerch for the original lineup; by the late 2000s the band had settled into its long-running lineup of Smith, Kerch, guitarist Zach Myers, and bassist/producer Eric Bass. Rooted in post-grunge and modern hard rock, Shinedown broke through with the platinum debut Leave a Whisper (2003) and followed with Us and Them (2005) and The Sound of Madness (2008), which produced the Top 10 hit "Second Chance." Later albums include Amaryllis (2012), Threat to Survival (2015), Attention Attention (2018), and Planet Zero (2022). The band holds the all-time record for the most number-one singles on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, having topped it more than twenty times, more than any other act in the chart's history.
