History
Daughtry is an American rock band formed in 2006 in McLeansville, North Carolina, fronted by singer-songwriter Chris Daughtry, who had just finished fourth on the fifth season of American Idol. Rather than accept an offer to become the new lead singer of the band Fuel, he held auditions and built his own group, playing post-grunge, hard rock and pop rock. Their self-titled 2006 debut, produced by Howard Benson, hit number one on the Billboard 200, sold more than six million copies in the US, and became Billboard's best-selling album of 2007 as well as the fastest-selling debut rock album in Nielsen SoundScan history. It yielded four top-20 Hot 100 hits, including the top-five singles "It's Not Over" and "Home," the latter later adopted as American Idol's own elimination theme song. Songwriters Dr. Luke and Max Martin contributed to the album, and guitarist Slash guested on the single "What I Want." Leave This Town (2009) debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, while Break the Spell (2011) reached the top 10. Across six studio albums, most recently Dearly Beloved (2021), Daughtry has sold more than 9 million records in the United States.
