History
Quiet Riot is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1975, growing out of an earlier group founded by singer Kevin DuBrow, guitarist Randy Rhoads, and bassist Kelly Garni in 1973. Unable to land a US record deal in the disco-dominated late 1970s, the band instead released two albums in Japan on Columbia Records before Rhoads left in 1979 to join Ozzy Osbourne's band, where he died in a 1982 plane crash. Quiet Riot regrouped around DuBrow, guitarist Carlos Cavazo, returning bassist Rudy Sarzo, and drummer Frankie Banali, and in 1983 released Metal Health, the first heavy metal album to reach number one on the Billboard 200. The record's singles, including covers of Slade's "Cum On Feel the Noize" and "Mama Weer All Crazee Now," made Quiet Riot MTV-era stars, though DuBrow's outspoken public feuds with peers later contributed to the band's decline. DuBrow led various lineups until his 2007 death; Banali kept the band active afterward, and Sarzo and other members have continued to tour and record under the Quiet Riot name.
