History
Onslaught are a British thrash metal band formed in 1982 in Bristol, England, by guitarist Nige Rockett and drummer Steve Grice. Starting out under the influence of hardcore punk acts like Discharge and the Exploited alongside the NWOBHM, the band hardened into a straightforward thrash sound with their 1985 debut, Power from Hell, followed by The Force in 1986. Vocalist Sy Keeler became the band's signature voice across multiple eras, though Steve Grimmett of Grim Reaper briefly fronted the band on 1989's In Search of Sanity, the only Onslaught album to reach the UK charts, peaking at No. 30. Onslaught toured with Motorhead, Kreator, Nuclear Assault and a then-unknown Anthrax before splitting in 1991. They reformed in 2005 and have released four further studio albums, including Generation Antichrist (2020) and Origins of Aggression (2025). Alongside Sabbat, Xentrix and Acid Reign, Onslaught are regarded as one of Britain's original thrash "Big Four," and pioneers of the UK thrash scene.
