History
Nuclear Assault formed in New York City in 1984, when bassist Dan Lilker left Anthrax shortly after that band's debut album and teamed up with guitarist/vocalist John Connelly. Rounded out by guitarist Anthony Bramante and drummer Glenn Evans, the group became one of the key East Coast thrash metal bands of the era, alongside Overkill and Anthrax itself, mixing thrash speed with a crossover-punk edge and politically charged, often sardonic lyrics. Signed first to Combat Records and then I.R.S. Records, they built a catalogue of six studio albums, including 1986's Game Over, 1988's Survive, and 1989's Handle with Care, the latter their commercial peak, cracking the Billboard 200 at No. 126 and the UK Albums Chart at No. 60. Lilker departed in 1992 to focus on Brutal Truth, and the band broke up in 1995 after Something Wicked, but reunited on and off from 2001 through 2022, releasing the Third World Genocide album (2005) and the Pounder EP (2015) before splitting for good in November 2022.
