History
Znowhite (also styled Znöwhite) was an American thrash/speed metal band formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 1982, credited as one of the acts that helped pioneer thrash metal in that city. It began as Snowhite, founded by brothers Ian Tafoya (guitar, real name Greg Fulton) and Sparks Tafoya (drums, real name Tony Heath) with cousin Nicky Tafoya (bass, real name Curtis Fulton); vocalist Nicole Lee (real name Sue Sharp) joined soon after, and the group swapped the S for a Z. A self-released three-song flexi disc featuring "Hellbent" caught the ear of Metal Blade Records founder Brian Slagel, earning the band a spot on the influential Metal Massacre III compilation in 1983, the same series that helped launch Metallica and Slayer. After bassist Scott Schafer joined in 1985, the band toured North America and released the EPs All Hail to Thee (1984) and Kick 'Em When They're Down (1985), the live album Live Suicide (1986), and its final studio album, Act of God (1988, Roadrunner Records), before splitting up; several members went on to form Cyclone Temple.
