History
Machinedrum is the main alias of American producer Travis Stewart (born 1982, Eden, North Carolina). He started making music as a teenager using the DOS tracker program Impulse Tracker, connecting with other producers through an IRC tracker-music channel, and launched the Machinedrum project in his last two years of high school before debuting on Merck Records in 2001 with Now You Know. His sound moved from glitch-hop and IDM toward house, dubstep, jungle, and footwork/juke, released mainly through Planet Mu and Ninja Tune, including Room(s) (2011) and Vapor City (2013), a concept album built around recurring dreams Stewart had about an imagined city, with each track mapped to a different district. He also records as half of Sepalcure (with Praveen Sharma), in the duo JETS (with Jimmy Edgar), and as Dream Continuum (with Om Unit), and has produced tracks for Azealia Banks, A$AP Ferg, and Theophilus London, plus a song for Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan.
