History
Nosaj Thing is the stage name of Jason Won Chung, an American record producer, DJ, and audiovisual artist born January 27, 1985, near Los Angeles (Montebello, California), and of Korean descent. He began making music on computers and synthesizers at age 12 and cut his teeth performing at LA's DIY venue The Smell and the experimental hip-hop night Low End Theory alongside future collaborators like Flying Lotus. His sound blends electronic, ambient, and hip hop production. He self-released the EP Views/Octopus in 2006, followed by the acclaimed debut album Drift (2009, Alpha Pup Records), then Home (2013), Fated (2015), Parallels (2017), and Continua (2022); in 2025 he released Verses GT, a collaborative dance project with Jacques Greene. As a producer he has worked with Kendrick Lamar ("Cloud 10"), Chance the Rapper ("Paranoia" on Acid Rap), Kid Cudi, Tinashe, and Toro y Moi, and founded the label Timetable Records in 2013. A standout piece of trivia: his 2016 Coachella show with Japanese artist Daito Manabe, using real-time Kinect-driven augmented reality visuals, was hailed by Pitchfork as the festival's "runaway winner for best visual production."
