History
Telefon Tel Aviv is an American electronic music duo formed in 1999 by Charles Cooper and Joshua Eustis, working out of New Orleans and later associated with Chicago's IDM scene. Their sound fuses IDM, ambient techno, and glitch, built from dense rhythmic programming layered under melancholic synth textures. They debuted with "Fahrenheit Fair Enough" (2001, reissued in 2016 with eight bonus tracks), followed by the EP "Immediate Action" (2002) and the album "Map of What Is Effortless" (2004). In 2000, they remixed Nine Inch Nails' "Where Is Everybody?" for the "Things Falling Apart" release. Their third album, "Immolate Yourself" (2009), was influenced by British band OMD and reached No. 17 on Billboard's Top Electronic Albums chart; its release came shortly after co-founder Charles Cooper's death in January 2009, which three autopsy reports later ruled out as suicide, attributing it instead to an accidental combination of sleeping pills and alcohol. Eustis continued the project alone, later releasing "Dreams Are Not Enough" in 2019.
