History
Kasabian are an English rock band formed in Leicester in 1997, originally under the name Saracuse. Founding members were vocalist Tom Meighan, guitarist and co-vocalist Sergio Pizzorno, guitarist Chris Karloff, and bassist Chris Edwards; drummer Ian Matthews joined in 2004. Their sound blends indie and alternative rock with electronica and space-rock textures, often likened to a mix of The Stone Roses and Primal Scream with the swagger of Oasis. The band broke through with its self-titled 2004 debut and built a catalogue of eight studio albums, including Empire (2006), West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum (2009), and 48:13 (2014). They won a Brit Award for Best British Group in 2010 and headlined Glastonbury Festival in 2014. One striking piece of trivia: the band's name comes from Linda Kasabian, a member of the Charles Manson cult who later testified against Manson at his 1971 trial. Frontman Tom Meighan left in 2020, with Pizzorno stepping up as full-time lead singer.
