History

Liam Gallagher's solo records are built around the voice that fronted Oasis: a nasal, snarling, drawn-out delivery that turns simple lines into declarations. After Oasis split in 2009 he led Beady Eye for a few years, and when that band ended he returned on his own with As You Were in 2017. Working with outside songwriters and producers, he leaned into what fans wanted from him, direct guitar rock with Beatles and Lennon echoes, lighter-waving ballads and swaggering mid-tempo stompers such as "Wall of Glass" and "For What It's Worth". As You Were went to number one in the UK, and Why Me? Why Not. in 2019 and C'mon You Know in 2022 did the same, the latter adding brighter, more experimental touches. His 2022 shows at Knebworth confirmed him as a major live draw on his own terms. In 2024 he released a joint album with John Squire of the Stone Roses, and in 2025 Oasis reunited for a stadium tour. A listener recognises him instantly by the stretched vowels, the hands-behind-the-back stance at the microphone and songs pitched squarely at the terraces.
