History
H.E.R. is the stage name of Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson, an American R&B singer-songwriter and guitarist born June 27, 1997, in Vallejo, California, to a Filipino mother and an African-American father. A child prodigy, she performed at the Apollo Theater and on national television by age ten and signed with RCA Records at fourteen, initially releasing music under her real name. In 2016 she rebranded as H.E.R. — an acronym for "Having Everything Revealed" — deliberately keeping her image mysterious while she built a following. Her debut EP, H.E.R. Vol. 1, and the songs that followed established a slow-burning, guitar-driven contemporary R&B sound. Her compilation album H.E.R. (2017) won two Grammy Awards, including one for the Daniel Caesar duet "Best Part." She has since won five Grammys total, including Song of the Year for the George Floyd-inspired "I Can't Breathe," and an Academy Award for "Fight for You," making her the first Oscar winner born in Generation Z. A notable early break came in 2017, when Rihanna posted an Instagram clip set to H.E.R.'s song "Focus," viewed millions of times.
