History
Summer Walker (born Summer Marjani Walker, April 11, 1996) is an American R&B singer-songwriter from Atlanta, Georgia. Largely self-taught, she learned production from online tutorials and built a following on SoundCloud before signing with the Atlanta label Love Renaissance (LVRN), an Interscope imprint, in 2017. Her debut mixtape, Last Day of Summer (2018), broke through on the strength of "Girls Need Love," whose remix with Drake gave her a first Billboard Hot 100 entry. Her 2019 debut album, Over It, went triple platinum and briefly held the record for the biggest streaming debut week by a female R&B artist. Its 2021 follow-up, Still Over It, opened at number one on the Billboard 200 and placed 18 songs on the Hot 100 simultaneously, matching a record previously held only by Taylor Swift. Walker's sound draws on confessional, moody R&B, citing Amy Winehouse and Erykah Badu as influences; she has earned a Billboard Music Award, an iHeartRadio Music Award, three Soul Train Music Awards, and four Grammy nominations.
