History
HammAli & Navai were a Russian hip-hop duo from Moscow, formed on 29 June 2016 by Alexander Gromov (HammAli) and Navai Bakirov (Navai) — both ethnic Azerbaijanis — while recording their first joint single, "Den v kalendare." Their sound, often tagged "hookah rap" (kalyannyy rep) shading into pop-rap, leaned on melodic hooks, Auto-Tuned vocals and radio-friendly production. Their 2018 debut album JANAVI became VK's most-streamed release that year, driven by the hit "Pustite menya na tantspol" ("Let Me Onto the Dance Floor"), which climbed to #2 on the Zvuk and Mooscle charts. A follow-up EP, JANAVI: Autotomiya, arrived that November. The duo collaborated widely — with Bahh Tee, Jony, Egor Kreed, Basta, Slava Marlow, Timati and others — and won Best Group at the Novoe Radio Awards (2020) and Best Hip-Hop Project at the RU.TV Awards (2023). They briefly announced a split in 2021 before reuniting within months, then disbanded for good in March 2025, playing their final joint shows in Moscow and St Petersburg that May.
