History
Fivio Foreign, born Maxie Lee Ryles III on March 29, 1990, in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, is one of the leading voices of Brooklyn drill. He began rapping as a teenager, went by the name Lite Fivio in 2011, and adopted Fivio Foreign two years later while co-founding the collective 800 Foreign Side with neighborhood friends. After years of guest verses, his 2019 single "Big Drip" broke through, later going platinum and earning a remix with Lil Baby and Quavo; it anchored his early EPs Pain and Love and 800 B.C. His 2022 debut album, B.I.B.L.E. (a backronym for "Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth," a nod to Wu-Tang affiliate Killah Priest), reached the Billboard 200's top ten and featured Kanye West, Alicia Keys, A$AP Rocky and Ne-Yo, led by the single "City of Gods." His sound fuses drill's booming 808s and chant-like delivery with more melodic, radio-ready hooks, and he's cited Pop Smoke and the broader New York drill scene as key influences. He also guested on King Von's "I Am What I Am" in 2020.
