History
Lil Skies (born Kimetrius Christopher Foose, August 4, 1998, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania) is an American rapper and singer who grew up in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. His father, Michael Burton Jr., performed as a rapper under the name Dark Skies, and "Lil Skies" plays on that name alongside an admiration for Lil Wayne. He began rapping as a child, released early mixtapes independently, and opened for Fetty Wap in 2016 before his breakout single "Red Roses" (featuring Landon Cube) reached the Billboard Hot 100 in 2017. That success led to a deal with Atlantic Records and All We Got Entertainment. His major-label mixtape debut, Life of a Dark Rose (2018), went platinum and peaked at number ten on the Billboard 200, powered by hits "Lust" and "Nowadays." His sound blends trap, emo rap, and SoundCloud-rap melodicism. He followed with the albums Shelby (2019, named for his mother) and Unbothered (2021), then Out Ur Body Music (2024) and Evolution of the Rose (2025). His younger brother also raps, under the name Heartbreak Kid.
