History
Lil Durk (Durk Devontay Banks, born October 19, 1992) is an American rapper who grew up in the Englewood neighborhood on Chicago's South Side. He is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Chicago drill, the stark, trap-adjacent subgenre that emerged from the city in the early 2010s, and is often cited as its most commercially successful artist. He began releasing mixtapes through his own collective, Only the Family (OTF), in 2011, building local buzz alongside Chief Keef and Lil Reese before his Signed to the Streets series (2013-2014) landed him a deal with Def Jam Recordings, which released his albums Remember My Name (2015) and Lil Durk 2X (2016). After leaving Def Jam in 2018, Durk's career grew further with OTF, home to the late King Von, and hits like "3 Headed Goat," The Voice of the Heroes (a chart-topping collaboration with Lil Baby), 7220, and Almost Healed. He won a Grammy Award in 2024. That same year he married India Royale, before being jailed on murder-for-hire charges in October 2024.
