Style recipe for Suno v5
Brooklyn Drill
Brooklyn drill from the 2010s: gliding sub bass, eerie piano, rapid hats, menacing and swaggering in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Brooklyn drill began as an offshoot of Chicago drill and then rebuilt itself on UK drill production, with distorted 808s and sliding bass notes. It dates from a 2014 single by Bobby Shmurda, with Bam Bino, Dah Dah and Curly Savv among the early names. The real rise came when 22Gz's "Suburban" (2016) and Sheff G's "No Suburban" (2017) went viral on beats from UK drill producers 808Melo, AXL Beats and Ghosty. In 2019 Pop Smoke took the sound into the mainstream with "Welcome to the Party" and "Dior", which earned a 2021 Grammy nomination, and Fivio Foreign followed him onto the Hot 100 with "Big Drip". Pop Smoke was killed in the Hollywood Hills in 2020. The lyrics are dark and street-level, and in February 2022, after the killing of the 18-year-old rapper C-HII Wvttz, New York mayor Eric Adams told some promoters to keep drill off festival stages. By then the Bronx had grown its own branch on uncleared samples of older soul, funk, R&B and pop: B-Lovee's "My Everything" flipped Mary J. Blige, Fivio sampled Destiny's Child on "B.I.B.L.E.", Cardi B jumped on Kay Flock's "Shake It", and Ice Spice came up from the same scene.
