Late-2010s brash Latin-tinged pop-trap from the 2010s: blaring brass sample, thumping kick pattern, ticking hat sixteenths, aggressive and swaggering in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.

History

Cardi B raps in the accent she grew up with, a Bronx delivery that lands hard on consonants and stays conversational even at full volume, and much of her appeal comes from how little distance there is between the person talking in interviews and the person on the record. She became known first through social media and reality television, then turned that attention into Bodak Yellow, a spare trap single built on a menacing loop that carried her to the top of the American singles chart. Invasion of Privacy followed and won Best Rap Album at the 2019 Grammy Awards. The album works because it refuses one register: I Like It flips a Latin boogaloo sample into a party record with Spanish-language verses, while other tracks sit close to R&B. WAP, recorded with Megan Thee Stallion, was explicit enough to become a news story on its own and one of the most discussed rap singles of its decade. Her timing and her ad libs, rather than dense internal rhyme, are what listeners recognise.
