History
Dianne Reeves (born October 23, 1956, in Detroit, raised in Denver, Colorado) is an American jazz vocalist known for a rich, flexible voice spanning straight-ahead jazz, Brazilian music, gospel, and R&B-inflected pop. Discovered as a teenager by trumpeter Clark Terry, she worked with the fusion band Caldera and toured with Sergio Mendes and Harry Belafonte before releasing her debut album, Welcome to My Love, in 1982. In 1987 she became the first vocalist signed to the reactivated Blue Note label, launching acclaimed releases such as I Remember and The Calling: Celebrating Sarah Vaughan. Reeves has won five Grammy Awards from nine nominations and is the first artist in any vocal category to win Grammys for three consecutive albums. She sang the on-screen jazz vocals in George Clooney's film Good Night, and Good Luck, earning a Grammy for its soundtrack, and later won again for Beautiful Life, featuring Gregory Porter and Esperanza Spalding. In 2018 the National Endowment for the Arts named her a Jazz Master, the highest US honor in the field.
