History
Jamie Cullum (born Jamie Paul Joseph Cullum, 20 August 1979, in Rochford, Essex, England) is an English jazz-pop singer, pianist, songwriter and radio presenter. He self-financed his debut album Heard It All Before (1999) for just £480, pressing only 500 copies. After a 2003 appearance on the talk show Parkinson, Universal signed him to a £1 million three-album deal, beating Sony in a bidding war. The resulting album, Twentysomething (2003), went platinum and made him the UK's best-selling jazz artist of the year. He is known for blending jazz standards with pop and hip-hop covers - he performs versions of The White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" and Kanye West's "Gold Digger" - and for percussive piano playing, beatboxing, and a wooden stomp box he uses live to amplify his foot-tapping. He co-wrote "Standing Still," Germany's 2012 Eurovision Song Contest entry, and was Golden Globe-nominated for the Gran Torino theme song. Since 2010 he has hosted a weekly jazz show on BBC Radio 2.
