History
Kandace Springs was born January 18, 1989, in Nashville, Tennessee, the daughter of session singer Scat Springs. She began piano lessons at ten and grew up on jazz and soul singers like Nina Simone, later drawing wider attention online for a cover of Sam Smith's "Stay with Me." After moving to New York to work with producers Carl Sturken and Evan Rogers, she signed to Blue Note Records and released a self-titled debut EP in 2014, the same year she guested on Ghostface Killah's "Love Don't Live Here No More." Her albums for Blue Note include Soul Eyes (2016, produced by Larry Klein, with trumpeter Terence Blanchard), Indigo (2018, featuring a Roy Hargrove trumpet solo), and the covers record The Women Who Raised Me (2020), honoring singers from Billie Holiday to Nina Simone. She has since released My Name Is Sheba (2022), Run Your Race (2024), and Lady in Satin (2025). A genuine highlight of her career: Prince personally invited her to perform on stage with him after hearing her sing.
