History
Norah Jones, born Geethali Norah Jones Shankar on March 30, 1979, is an American singer-songwriter whose music blends jazz with country, blues, folk, and pop. She is the daughter of sitar legend Ravi Shankar, though she grew up largely apart from him and only reconnected as an adult; her half-sister is sitarist Anoushka Shankar. After moving to New York and signing to Blue Note Records, Jones released her debut album, Come Away with Me, in 2002. The record became a phenomenon, eventually selling more than 10 million copies (RIAA diamond certified) and earning her five Grammy Awards at the 2003 ceremony, including Album of the Year and Best New Artist, making her the first person of South Asian descent to win five Grammys in a single night, tying Lauryn Hill and Alicia Keys for the most Grammys won by a woman in one night. She has won ten Grammys overall and sold over 53 million albums worldwide; Billboard named her the top jazz artist of the 2000s. Later albums Feels Like Home (2004), Not Too Late (2007), and The Fall (2009) all went platinum, and she made her acting debut in Wong Kar-wai's My Blueberry Nights (2007).
