History
Breaking Benjamin is an American rock band formed in 1999 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, by singer-guitarist Benjamin Burnley and drummer Jeremy Hummel, soon joined by guitarist Aaron Fink and bassist Mark James Klepaski. That lineup released Saturate (2002) and We Are Not Alone (2004), then Phobia (2006) and Dear Agony (2009) with new drummer Chad Szeliga, building a signature sound of post-grunge hooks, angst-driven lyrics, and heavy, churning guitars. The band went on an extended hiatus in 2010 after Burnley's recurring illness, and an unauthorized 2011 compilation led to a legal split with Fink and Klepaski. Burnley rebuilt Breaking Benjamin in late 2014 with a new lineup (Aaron Bruch, Keith Wallen, Jasen Rauch, Shaun Foist), and the comeback album Dark Before Dawn (2015) debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, followed by Ember (2018) at number three. Burnley has remained the band's sole constant member and primary songwriter throughout every lineup change. In the US alone the band has sold more than 19 million units, with three platinum albums and multiple platinum and gold singles.
