History
Chevelle is an American rock band formed in Grayslake, Illinois, in 1995 by brothers Pete Loeffler (lead vocals, guitar) and Sam Loeffler (drums), initially with bassist Matt Scott, who was replaced by a third Loeffler brother, Joe, in 1996. The band's sound blends hard rock, alternative metal, alternative rock, and post-grunge, built on Pete's low, snarling vocal delivery and heavy, downtuned riffs. Their debut, Point #1, appeared on the small Squint Entertainment label, but it was 2002's Wonder What's Next that broke them nationally, going double platinum and debuting at No. 14 on the Billboard 200. Its single "Send the Pain Below" hit No. 1 on both the Mainstream Rock and Modern Rock charts and earned three 2003 Billboard Music Award nominations. The 2004 follow-up, This Type of Thinking (Could Do Us In), debuted at No. 8 and went platinum. Chevelle has released nine studio albums total, most recently Bright as Blasphemy (2025), and has sold over 6 million records. Notably, the band has always centered on the Loeffler brothers, cycling through several bassists, including brother-in-law Dean Bernardini, over three decades together.
