History
Toxi$ (born Andrey Smelyansky, March 21, 2004, in Moscow, Russia) is a St. Petersburg-raised rapper often credited as a pioneer of nu-jazz, a Russian rap subgenre built on heavily Auto-Tuned, glitchy vocal lines. He studied piano as a teenager, then turned to rap after discovering Lil Pump and Trippie Redd, releasing his English-language debut album "Greener Days" in 2019 while still in school. Big Baby Tape heard the record and encouraged him to rap in Russian, leading to his first Russian-language track, "Тага," that same year. He broke out in 2023 through dance videos posted to his Telegram channel, and his mini-album "Jazz Do It" landed at No. 8 on The Flow's best albums of 2023. In 2024, Forbes Russia named him to its "30 Under 30" list in the New Media category. His trademark unusually high voice comes from eosinophilic granuloma, a condition he had at 15. In February 2026, a clip of him singing his song "Nobody" (with Big Baby Tape and Aarne) unplugged during a livestream went viral, spawning a wave of memes around the line "take the phone, baby."
