History
Sky Ferreira is an American singer-songwriter, model, and actress, born July 8, 1992, in Venice, Los Angeles. Discovered as a teenager by producers Bloodshy & Avant through her Myspace videos, she signed with Parlophone in 2009. After the electropop-leaning EP "As If!" (2011), her 2012 EP "Ghost" included the Dev Hynes co-write "Everything Is Embarrassing," a critical breakthrough that also featured collaborations with Jon Brion and Shirley Manson. Her debut album, "Night Time, My Time" (2013), blended indie rock with synth-pop and won wide critical acclaim; that year she also began acting, appearing in Eli Roth's "The Green Inferno." Her second album, "Masochism," has become one of pop's most notorious "lost" records: first announced in 2015, it was pushed back for nearly a decade through standalone singles like "Downhill Lullaby" (2019) and "Don't Forget" (2022). Frustrated fans organized a "Free Sky Ferreira" campaign and, in 2023, crowdfunded a Times Square billboard accusing her label of holding the album hostage. She was raised partly by her grandmother, who had been Michael Jackson's personal hairstylist for over three decades.
