History
Tame Impala is the psychedelic music project of Australian singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Kevin Parker, who writes, records, plays and produces nearly everything himself in the studio, while touring with a full band (Dominic Simper, Jay Watson, Cam Avery, Julien Barbagallo, James Ireland). Parker started the project in Perth, Western Australia in 2007, posting home recordings on Myspace before signing to Modular Recordings in 2008. The sound blends psychedelic rock, synth-pop, indie rock and neo-psychedelia. The 2010 debut Innerspeaker went gold in Australia, and 2012's Lonerism reached platinum and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. The 2015 album Currents won ARIA Awards for Album of the Year and Best Rock Album, and its opener "Let It Happen" took the 2016 APRA Song of the Year. The Slow Rush (2020) swept five ARIA Awards. In 2025, the album Deadbeat's single "Dracula," remixed with K-pop star Jennie, became Tame Impala's first top-ten hit on the US Billboard Hot 100. The project is closely linked to fellow Perth band Pond, sharing members and collaborators.
