History
Tove Lo, born Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson on 29 October 1987 in Helsingborg, Sweden, is a singer-songwriter known for raw, grunge-influenced pop built on candid, autobiographical lyrics, which led Rolling Stone to call her "Sweden's darkest pop export." Raised in Djursholm near Stockholm, she got her stage name as a toddler when her godmother nicknamed her after a lynx ("lo" in Swedish) she adored at a zoo. In 2006 she formed the math-rock band Tremblebee, which played Swedish bars for three years before splitting in 2009. She then moved into songwriting, signing with Warner/Chappell in 2011 and working with Max Martin and Xenomania, before landing her own record deal with Island/Polydor in 2013. Her 2014 debut album Queen of the Clouds went platinum in the US on the strength of the sleeper hit "Habits (Stay High)," which reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100. She followed with Lady Wood (2016), Blue Lips (2017), Sunshine Kitty (2019) and Dirt Femme (2022), the latter's single "How Long" featuring in Euphoria's second season. Beyond her own records, she co-wrote Ellie Goulding's "Love Me Like You Do," earning Grammy and Golden Globe nominations.
