History
NLE Choppa, born Bryson LaShun Potts on November 1, 2002, in Memphis, Tennessee, is an American rapper, songwriter, and YouTuber who emerged from Memphis's street-rap scene in the late 2010s. He began freestyling with friends at 15 and released his first song, "No Love Anthem," in March 2018 under the name YNR Choppa, followed by his debut mixtape, No Love the Takeover, that July. His breakout single, "Shotta Flow" (2019), went platinum and cracked the Billboard Hot 100 top 40, sparking a bidding war among major labels before he signed with Warner Records. His style blends Southern hip-hop, trap, drill, and gangsta rap, often paired with an energetic, dance-heavy delivery that drew early praise from Pitchfork. His debut album, Top Shotta (2020), reached the Billboard 200 top ten, and 2023's Cottonwood 2 produced "Slut Me Out" (remixed with Sexyy Red), his highest-charting single to date.
